Best Anti-Cellulite Products – Dismantling the Dimples

CELLULITE ON BACK OF THE THIGHS

Women of today are obsessed with their looks and body image. Only a few of them are born perfect. Born with a full set of flawless features. Big baby blue eyes, gorgeous, feathered eyelashes, a thick crop of Jenifer Aniston hair. The rest of us depend on cosmetic experts for help. One of the major concerns is to find the best anti-cellulite products.

What is Cellulite?

The word “cellulite” was invented in France at the end of the 19th century. It first appeared in the French medical dictionary.

It is subcutaneous fat that shows up as skin dimples. These dimples are also called cottage cheese. Cellulite usually settles on the buttock, thighs and stomach. Moreover, the original definition of cellulite had nothing to do with dimples of fat. It was a general term applied to inflammation or infection. In summary, cellulite occurs in 85-98 percent of women and post pubescent females. Every woman is shopping around for the best anti-cellulite products to bring them peace of mind.

Best Anti-Cellulite Products of the 1800s

Cellulite was discovered in the early 1900s by operators of European beauty spas. It spread to the United States in 1973. Nicole Ronsard was owner of a beauty and cellulite salon located in New York. During this time, her book hit the New York bestseller list. Consequently, it became the talk of the town. It highlighted all the pros and cons of cellulite. She wrote it at the right time, in the right place.

Body fat had once been a sign of prosperity. Many of the 17th century paintings included plus sized women. However, during this time, more and more women were working outside the home. Many of them were filling positions formerly reserved for men. They had a lot more money to add to the growing economy. So, merchants perceived these working women to cash cows. Thus, cellulite helped grow the economy. Business boomed in the post-war beauty industry.

Paris, France flourished as the beauty capital of the world. In addition, the first beauty institute opened in 1895, quickly followed by more. Also, there was a rising market for cellulite products. Eventually, French spas began to advertise treatments for cellulite. These interventions included special soaps, massages, and beauty creams.

Meanwhile, people were still trying to figure out cellulite and how to get rid of it. Experts claimed that tight dresses, poorly fitted belts and overeating was the cause. As a result, the French women fought for recourse from this devastating disease.

Claude Fischer’s Fat Phobia

Claude Fischer wrote a paper on the fat phobia. He states, ” the process triggered a number of trends which were to radically alter attitudes about food and eating as well as body image.” First, being pleasantly plump was no longer the status quo. In essence, thinness was treated as a personal achievement. Second, fatness became a symbol of personal failure. As the new standard of female beauty took root across the western world, so did the panic over cellulite.

From 1937-1939 cellulite once located in the woman’s lower extremities moves to the neck and shoulder areas. When the cellulite craze finally came to the West in 1968, women believed they could conquer their cellulite with vigorous exercise, diet and by special rolling pin. By the way, rolling pins are still being used to roll away the fat. Today’s market is chock-full of treatments for cellulite.

Naomi Wolf’s 1990s Beauty Myth

In her best-seller The Beauty Myth (1990), Journalist Naomi Wolf argues that this resulted in a pop culture tendency to re-interpret healthy “adult female flesh” as a “condition.”

Between March 2014 and February 2015, 919,108 containers of anti-cellulite cream were sold in France. This brought in a net profit of 22.8 million euros (IMS Health Pharmatrend). In the U.S., sales from the beauty industry skyrocketed to 18 billion dollars in 2015; 17 percent growth compared to 2014. Rumors about the because and effects of cellulite continue to spread.

Causes and Effects of Cellulite

There are so many reasons for developing cellulite. For starters, cellulite is caused by a build-up of fat underneath the skin. Some women are more predisposed than others. It can show up on anyone at any time. However, some of the main causes are listed below. You may be surprised. How or when did you first notice those pretty, little dimples on your outer thighs? Are you curious to see what other things cause cellulite? Let’s dive in.

Diet:

Making lifestyle changes are key to controlling cellulite. If you are consuming low nutritional, high caloric foods, this is not going to reverse your cellulite issue. For starters, find a nutritionist in your healthcare network. Second, incorporate a healthier diet. Your cellulite will thank you.

Genetic Predisposition:

Although there is a genetic component to cellulite, this does NOT mean you develop it. However, this is contingent upon your lifestyle and how to take care of yourself.

Hormonal Imbalances:

Estrogen levels in perimenopausal women can affect cellulite development. How? Estrogen dominance can contribute to the increase in fat. This triggers hormonal imbalances. In turn, as more fat stores under the skin, this increases the risk of cellulite.

Pregnancy:

Weight gains during pregnancy makes cellulite more visible.

Catecholamine Hormones:

(Dopamine, Dorepinephrine)

Catecholamines are hormones made by your adrenal glands. Released in the body during stress.

Cellulite is also caused by accumulated toxins, inactivity and an unhealthy lifestyle

My Personal Cellulite Journey

Honestly, my first encounter with cellulite took me by surprise. You want to know the truth; it scared the hell out of me. Never saw this coming. I have always struggled with my weight. Yo-Yo dieting was my middle name for years. Here’s my story. I weighed the least at age 12. Cartwheels must have kept me slim. Late teens, into my twenties, I was already up to 180 pounds. Thirties were not so bad until giving birth. This changed my life completely.

One day I noticed bubbles on my thighs. They, literally, appeared out of nowhere. At least, that’s how I felt. Until this day, I have never considered having my cellulite removed. I’ve gotten used to it and, really, it’s no big deal. Got over it. However, I won’t rule out getting my cellulite under wraps one day. Cellulite can strike anyone at any time. So, be on the lookout. ASHLEY GRAHAM - SUPER MODEL WITH CELLULITE
Ashley Graham – Plus-Size Model

Ashley Graham is now a celebrity and fashion model. She happens to be a plus-sized super model. In fact, she was discovered by a prestigious modeling agent at age 12. How Come Men do not get Cellulite?

The build-up of cellulite is more visible in women versus men. It becomes more visible as we age. Skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity. This comes through as dimples on the surface of the skin.

Final Take Home

Trust me, we all have something about ourselves that we don’t like. For instance, my bestie hates her mole on her upper lip (I think it’s adorable). My sister dislikes the way her nose curves (she’s not asymmetrical). I never liked the gap I had in my front teeth. Same goes with people with cellulite. Subcutaneous fat develops in several ways. First, it may be genetic. Second, it can result from hormonal changes or an unhealthy lifestyle. Makes no difference whence it comes. Whatever the cause, cellulite is no joke Ya’ll. Been there. Done that.

Unlike in the past, when women believed subcutaneous fat was a medical diagnosis, today’s women are taking charge. As a result, they tend to their bodies as never before. Although the jury is still out (whether cellulite can be conquered), women remain in the driver’s seat. They now have choices to conquer cellulite once and for all.
