My name is Rachele, Founder of My Blue Genes. This is a new website that raises awareness about the latest health crisis, both nationally and globally. We must reverse the statistics by putting an end to the obesity crisis. This is a lack of knowledge crisis. Incorporating the best healthy food diet is, without a shadow of doubt, a game-changer.
Best Healthy Food Diet
In case you didn’t know, according to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and being overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Preventable is the operating word. Close behind is tobacco use (3). An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic. This calls for a switch to the best healthy food diet.
Switch to a Healthy Lifestyle
My goal is to change these statistics one person, one meal, one day at a time. In fact, there is a natural way to accomplish this goal. However, it will not happen overnight. Rome was not built in one day.
These statistics call for a switch to a healthy lifestyle The simplest way to accomplish this task is by joining the Blue Zone philosophy.

The Blue Zone Philosophy
Armed with an astute crew and the latest health research, Dan Bruettner, set out on a journey around the world to find out more about the longest-lived people. His journey would take him to countries like Italy, Greece, Costa Rica and Japan. What he found next was astounding.
First, he discovered that people from the Blue Zone follow a mostly plant-based diet, with plenty of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, minimum if sugar and maybe some oily fish. In addition, he found another Blue Zone within the U.S. in a small town in Loma Linda, California, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Here, the residents also follow a strictly vegetarian diet.
Blue Zoners adhere to unique eating philosophy – eating breakfast as a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. Looks like this works. The community of Loma Linda is now an official part of the notorious Blue Zone. Let’s check out the nine principles of Blue Zone.
Blue Power 9 Lifestyle of Centenarians:
1. Move Naturally
The world’s longest-lived people don’t pump iron, run marathons or join gyms. Instead, they live in environments that constantly nudge them into moving without thinking about it. They grow gardens and don’t have mechanical conveniences for house and yard work. You can also join Leslie for a walk.
2. Purpose
The Okinawans call it “ikigai” and the Nicoyans call it “plan de vida” for both it translates to “why I woke up this morning.” Knowing your sense of purpose is worth up to seven extra years of life expectancy
3. Downshift
Even people in the Blue Zone experience stress. Stress leads to chronic inflammation, associated with every major age-related disease. What the world’s longest-lived people have that we don’t have are routines to shed that stress. Okinawans take a few moments each day to remember their ancestors, Adventist’s pray, Ikarians take a nap and Sardinians do happy hour.
4. The 80% Rule
“Hara hachi bu” the Okinawan 2500-year-old Confucian mantra said before meals remind them to stop eating when their stomachs are 80% full. The 20% gap between not being hungry and feeling full could be the difference between losing weight or gaining it. People in the Blue Zone eat their smallest in the late afternoon or early evening and then they don’t eat anymore the rest of the day.
5. Plant Slant
Beans, including fava, black, soy and lentils, are the corner stone of most centenarian diets. Meat-mostly pork- is eaten on average only five times per month. Serving sizes are 3-4 oz. about the size of a deck of cards.
6. Wine @ 5
People in all Blue Zones 9except Adventists) drink alcohol moderately and regularly. Moderate drinkers outlive non-drinkers. The trick is to drink 1-2 glasses per day (preferably Sardinian Cannonau wine), with friends and/or with food. And no, you can’t save up all week and have 14 drinks on Saturday.
7. Belong
All but five of the Centenarians we interviewed belong to some faith-based community. Denomination doesn’t seem to matter. Research shows that attending faith-based services four times per month will add 4-14 years of life expectancy.
8. Loved Ones First
Successful Centenarians in the Blue Zone put their families first. This means keeping aging parents and grandparents nearby or in the home (it lowers disease and mortality rates of children in the home too). They commit to a life partner (which can add up to three years of life expectancy) and invest in their children with time and love (They’ll be more likely to care for you when the time comes.
9. Right Tribe
The world’s longest-lived people chose- or were born into- social circles that supported healthy behaviors, Okinawans created “mouis” – groups of five friends that committed to each other for life. Research from the Framingham studies shows that smoking, obesity, happiness, and even loneliness is contagious. So, the social networks of long-lived people have favorably shaped their health behaviors.
Are You Ready to Make the Transition?
Living a healthy, active lifestyle is much easier than you think. What if you could follow a simple program that would do wonders for your over health? In addition, it could control your weight and could also reverse the aging process. Sounds too good to be true. It’s not. In fact, science proves that it is absolutely true. If so, Blue Zone is the solution for you. So, go put on your workout shoes and let’s get busy, my friend.
Of course there may be personal things to set you back from enjoying a stress-free life. Things like emotional abuse, relationship issues or narcisistic behaviors. We all are dealing with stressors in one way or the other. Maybe you live in a stressful environment. At any rate, it’s time to shift gears and get you to a better place.
