Obesity Causes and Prevention – Cracking the Code to Save a Life

MAN HOLDING A WHT ME SIGN - REFERRING TO THE OBESITY QUESTION

Trust me, no one in their right mind (besides Lizzo) and her husky fan club wants to be oversize. Come on now. How can you be happy with something that can wreak havoc on your health and well-being? The reality is you can’t. Mark my word, Lizzo is not going to carry her weight forever. In the meantime, though, she has absolutely no concern for her own obesity causes and prevention.

What are the Causes of Obesity?

There are many causes for excessive weight and obesity. Right from the top of my head, I can think of a few. Number one is obvious, access to a lot of food. Having this accessibility, makes it incredibly easy to get the munchies. However, one of the hardest tasks is figuring out your obesity causes and prevention.

Another reason for obesity hinges on the fact that people were, literally, held hostage in their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. People were limited to the practice of social distancing and staying at home. So, unfortunately, they were stuck, smack in the middle of the crisis. Before, during and after the pandemic, they are still asking themselves, why me?

Why am I Overweight

There are more reasons than you can think of when it comes to the question “Why am I Overweight?” Below is a list of a few of those reasons:

Heredity

Don’t get me wrong, I have respect for Lizzo and all her homies. The truth is, in terms of health, anyone who carries this amount of excess weight, is heading for some major health problems. At the end of the day, our celebrities are not exempt from heart disease, severe inflammation and other chronic conditions. Prader-Willi Syndrome, a genetic disorder can also cause obesity.

It may be true that certain genetic traits are inherited from our parents. This makes losing weight seem impossible. However, it certainly does not mean that it is impossible. All it takes is a strong willingness and a small change in attitude. Plus, if there is a shift in eating habits, toss in a dose of physical activity, we can take off pounds. A healthy environment goes a long way.

Environmental

Unhealthy eating habits tend to run in families. Children pick up habits from what they see. If parents overindulge, so will the children. So, a good rule of thumb for parents, provide a safe, healthy environment for your little ones. Show them how to have a healthy, happy lifestyle. Teach them the concept “Let food be thy medicine.”

Medical reasons abound

In some isolated cases, underlying medical conditions contribute to weight gain. So, before you call an obese person out of their name, don’t. You have no idea of what you are saying. They may have one of the following conditions:

  • An under active thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) – where the thyroid does not produce enough hormones
  • Cushing’s syndrome – a rare disorder that causes the over production of steroid hormones
  • Medications can cause weight gain – Corticosteroids, Anti-depressants
  • Side effect of stopping smoking.

Statistics Matter

Excess body weight is hazardous to your health. Fat cells, also known as adipocytes, are mini toxin-producing plants. Adipocytes in visceral fat (hidden fat wrapped around internal organs) produce 35 chemicals that lead to inflammation, insulin resistance, and elevated C-reactive protein.

Whenever a physician finds this protein (C-reactive), it indicates that the patient is at risk for cardiovascular disease. That said, why not make it your life’s work to prevent your body from succumbing to this condition. Take charge of your health. It is all in your power to reverse obesity. You CAN control your diet destiny. If don’t want to do it yourself, do it for your children and loved ones. This is the highest form of self-care. Treat yourself to the gift of life (health and wellness). BOWL OF JAPANESE ENZYME - NATTOKINASE

Nattokinase Traditional Treat

Has anyone of you heard about Japanese Natto? If not, you will thank me for introducing you to this miracle treat. It is nature’s gift to humanity. First, Nattokinase is an enzyme produced when soybeans are boiled. Then they are fermented to form natto. This is a traditional food created in Japan. Natto has been used as a home remedy for hundreds of years. It heals diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

Resent research has found that nattokinase has a potent property for treating blood clots, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. In addition, it stabilizes plaque in the body. Basically, it’s equivalent to taking aspirin, heparin, blood pressure pills, and a statin all in one scoop. Thus, it has been called the perfect cardiac cocktail. This a medical statistical anomaly. Food Impacts the Quality of Life

When you consume nutritious foods, you not only improve your health, but you also improve the quality of your life, too. Highly nutritional foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables contain macro and micronutrients. These nutrients supply your body with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. You get a dose of everything you need for optimal health and energy.

Low-Quality Foods

On the flip side, low-quality foods destroy your vim and vitality. In fact, have you noticed how your energy dissipates after bingeing on junk foods? You get that afternoon dip in energy, and you feel tired and fatigued. Right after the binge, your mood changes and your motivation skip out the front door. Bummer! PEOPLE WITH CHEMICAL IMBALANCES - CONSUMING LOW-QUALITY FOODS

This is what happens when you eat low-nutritional foods:

  • Changes brain chemistry
  • You feel fatigue
  • Effects decision-making
  • Consume preservatives and additives
  • Outlook on life is blurred

Food Impacts Your Neurotransmitters

Food impacts six Major neurotransmitters. These transmitters help improve your brain, your mood and your overall health. They include Serotonin, Dopamine, Acetylcholine, Gaba, Glutamate, and Asparate. However, for today, we shine the spotlight on the neurotransmitter Serotonin.

What are Neurotransmitters

Have no worries, my subsequent blogs will cover more in-depth detail on the other neurotransmitters. For now, all you need to know is that they are messengers that transmit chemical signals to and from the brain and other organs in the body. Another feature of neurotransmitters is that they carry messages from one neuron (cell) to the next. Let’s take a closer look at a neurotransmitter.

Serotonin is a Celebrity Neurotransmitter

Serotonin is one of the most common neurotransmitters in medical terminology. However, it is more prevalent in men. In fact, one study found that women have over 50% less serotonin than their counterparts.  As a result, women have twice as much anxiety and depression.

As a matter of fact, they also struggle with more intense cravings for sugary foods and carbohydrates.  By the way, did you know that 90% of Serotonin in the body is made in your gut? This is a true light bulb moment.

Serotonin, the Feel Happy Neurotransmitter

For the record, Serotonin is called the “feel happy” neurotransmitter. It is responsible for your mood stability, sleep regulation, social engagement and appetite control. In addition, serotonin levels drop when a woman are on her period. That explains why they experience anxiety during that time of the month.

Can you think of a time when one of your friends or family members were irritable and in a rut? Chances are they were experiencing a low serotonin moment. As we move right along, it time to fess up. Time to ditch and switch. DO YOUR OWN RESEACH -LOOKING FOR WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM

Ditch and Switch

Time to re-assess, re-educate and re-direct yourself. You have control over your food choices and your quality of life. It is never too late. First thing you need to do is make a quick assessment of your present quality of life. Second, do your research to find out about local resources. Next, make a plan of action to redirect your life for good.

Re-Educate:

Do your research online or at the public library. Ask your physician for help. Join a free weight-loss program. Most hospitals, clinics and medical centers have unlimited resources, classes and weight loss experts on-hand. I know, because I have been enrolled in several programs myself and they work.

Re-Assess:

Grab a pen and paper and begin to go down the list. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, sleeping and eating habits, triggers and physical activity. You’ll be surprised at what youdiscover about yourself. Also, personalize your goals.

Re-Direct:

Now that you have assessed and educated yourself, it is time to move forward into you the next phase. You are close to getting your life back on track. You are going to feel so much better.ROADBLOCKS - ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

Moving Beyond the Roadblocks

Once you make up your mind to master your dietary roadblocks, you are on your way to a rich, fulfilling lifestyle. So, buckle up, and give your body the nourishment and attention it needs. Making this transition is going to change your life completely. Alongside diet and lifestyle, changes also include the following tasks:

Set realistic goals:

If you’re obese, losing 3% of your original body weight can significantly reduce your risk of developing obesity-related complications.

Mindful eating:

Eat more slowly. Be mindful of what you eat and when you are eating. For example, avoid distractions while eating (watching TV). You will tend to eat more because your mind is elsewhere.

Avoid temptations:

Avoid going to the bakery or being around others who are over eaters. Stay focused on your goals. Stay away from fast food places or snack food stands. Put the fattening stacks in a place hard to reach. Get involved in an enjoyable hobby that sparks your joy (creative art, ceramics, wood working, bird watching, learn to play music, dancing, learn a new language, gardening)

Embrace your tribe:

Remember, you are making a total lifestyle change. You never go it alone. Let everyone be included in the process. Your family, friends, and your weight loss team. They can help motivate you and provide a safety net when you need one.

Final Take Home

Carrying extra weight is not the end of the world. Furthermore, we are created in all shapes and sizes, and no one is perfect. After you do your research and gain insight on what you are dealing with, you will see a light at the end of the tunnel. Embrace your individuality, make your plan of action, and go for it.
